Welcome to Semicon Alpha!
This sub stack is run by Dr. William Keating, a 30+ year veteran of the semiconductor industry and former senior executive for 22 years at Intel Corporation. During my time at Intel, I worked across multiple divisions within the company in the USA, Europe and Asia. My final role at Intel brought me to Hong Kong where I was the IT Director for APAC, China and Japan from 2005 through 2014.
Over the course of my career, I have published more than 300 opinion pieces on the industry and have completed ~300 consultations through expert networks such as GLG and Guidepoint.
First things first though. If you got here by going to www.ingenuity.hk, that’s not a mistake! I am the founder of Ingenuity, a Hong Kong based Semiconductor Research & Consulting firm which I established in 2014. After years of struggling with Wordpress and all its vagaries, I finally discovered Substack and decided to make the transition. At the same time, I took the opportunity to do a bit of rebranding, hence Semicon Alpha.
Our mission is to provide critical, timely, actionable insights, perspectives and opinions on the latest developments in the global semiconductor industry.
If you are considering subscribing to my substack, you might wonder what my track record as a semiconductor analyst has been over the course of the past eight years? To that end, I’m making most of my back catalog available for free to all new subscribers so you can judge for yourselves.
In the six years+ that I’ve been publishing, I’ve covered some really important themes that have irreparably changed the industry . Perhaps the one I’m most proud of is the resurgence of AMD. I kicked off my coverage of this back in May 2016 here: AMD's upcoming Zen- Should Intel be scared? I’ve compiled a post covering all of the articles I’ve written this topic and you can find them here:
If only Intel had been subscribed to my posts at the time :-) A companion series on the decline of Intel, written in lock step with the articles charting AMD’s resurgence, is available here:
We are in the process of organising all of our other back catalog articles in a similar fashion. You can anticipate series on Micron, China Semiconductors, Autonomous Driving, The History of Memory etc.
We hope that you find something of interest within these pages and would love to hear any feedback you make like to share. You can get in touch here william.keating@ingenuity.hk
If you like our work, then please help support our efforts by considering a paid subscription. It will make a huge difference in helping us continue our research.
