China Gears Up For Autonomous Driving

Last month, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAEC), published its blueprint for the development of the automotive industry until 2030, with particular emphasis on highly or fully autonomous driving- you can read the details here. According to the report, “the roadmap forges a consensus within China’s auto industry so that the country can rapidly move towards producing and selling self-driving cars”. Earlier this year, China banned autonomous cars from the country’s public highways- details here. In California, the DMV regulates autonomous driving via its Autonomous Vehicle Tester Program, administered by the department’s Occupational Licensing Branch. To date, some 19 companies have been issues permits under this program.
